Obama a Hypocrite?

In her nightly commentary on CNN, Campbell Brown stated that Senator Barack Obama has broken his promise. The promise she’s referring to is one he made in November of last year when he pledged to accept public financing and work with the Republican nominee to ensure they both work within those limits.

However, when it became apparent that he could raise more money on his own than he could get with public financing, Obama did what most politicians do: he went back on his word.

Since the start of his campaign, he has raised over $600 mil. That is no small fortune, folks! But of course Obama has a great excuse or two. He claims that the system is broken and that Republican’s know how to use the system to their own advantage. That and he needs the financing to repel all those negative Swift Boat-style attack ads. However, the Washington Post reported recently that, with the bad economy, the 527s don’t have the cash to join in on the fun.

So what can we make of Senator (er, President) Obama going back on his word like this? Obama supporter, and former Nebraska senator, Bob Kerrey wrote in the New york Post, “A hypocrite is a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue - who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings. And that, it seems to me, is what we’re doing now.”

Harsh words, especially from a supporter, but nevertheless, they are true. He pledged to do things a certain way, to run his campaign on public financing and work with his opponent. He didn’t have to, but that’s what he said he would do. Then he pulls some bullshit excuse out of his ass?! Yes he’s a hypocrite! And if his broken promise isn’t enough convincing for you, take this into account: he’s a fucking politician! No better, no worse, but Barack Obama is just another politician.
