McCain in danger of losing Arizona?
Imagine this: it just so happens that the Super Bowl is being played in a city where one of the conference champs resides. Late in the fourth quarter, as the home town team is being slaughtered, the faithful begin cheering for the opposition. Or, remember Rocky IV, when, towards the end of the fight, inspired by his unwavering spirit, the Russian crowd begins openly chanting for the Italian Stallion over Ivan Drago? Such is the case for John McCain in the closing days of the election.
Now I’ve said how much I hate the polls but this one is intriguing. They are now showing the race in Arizona, the Republican nominee’s home state, is narrowing. A recent CNN/Time/Opinion Research poll shows McCain with a 53-46% lead of Barack Obama. But some surveys suggest the race is even closer.
Lending some validity to these polls is the Republican’s recent efforts in the state. Earlier this week, the McCain camp and the RNC paind for negative robo-calls, warning voters of the dangers that could come with an Obama presidency. “If Democrats win full control of the government,” the calls said, “they will give civil rights to terrorists and talk unconditionally to dictators and state sponsors of terror. Barack Obama and Democratic allies lack the experience to lead America.”
How demoralizing! You wouldn’t even think of your home state being in danger but it seems that Schwartz’s Law is in full effect for John McCain. In case you don’t know what that is, Murphy’s Law states that if anything can go wrong, it will; Scwartz’s Law states that Murphy was an optimist.
